Pam Fichtner
Background
Pam is a Registered Massage Therapist, who has combined her interest in caring for the body through massage therapy, lymphatic drainage, craniosacral therapy and oncology breast cancer massage, along with somatic experiencing trauma healing, into an integrated yoga class for women, non-binary and trans people to connect to their bodies- in particular, their breasts and/or chest scars, as they move through the poses. Breast health is a concern for her, especially given the high rate of breast cancer in society, and general lack of connection with this part of our bodies. They are often not honored or appreciated in a way that creates space for self-care, nourishment and loving attention.
Her class, called Breast and Chest Health yoga, has a specific lens on poses with the breast and chest in mind, whether they are affected by breast cancer or not. Pam draws on her yoga training from Jan Henrikson, as well as from taking a 6-month oncology yoga training certificate program with Tari Prinster at yoga4cancer, who wrote the book Yoga for Cancer. Also, she took and is certified to teach Healthy Breast Foundations training from Dr. Sat Dharam Kaur, where she learned specific Kundalini poses for the lymphatic system. And, she has taken a Bonefit course for working with people with osteoporosis.
She incorporates a wide range of asana poses, pranayama breathing techniques, lymphatic movements, and meditations into the classes, all with the aim to improve breast and chest health. Depending on the class intention and theme, a variety of props will be used such as bolsters, belts, blocks, balls, black straps, foam rollers, noodles, blankets, towels, scarves, and eye covers, as she likes to continually change the classes to keep women interested in them. She will guide you through using them, teaching in a non-judgmental, relaxed, respectful, reverent and fun way. You are encouraged to listen to your body on the day that you come to the class and to do any modifications necessary to help you stay connected with your breath- in body, mind and spirit.
She has worked for over 25 years in the health field, always learning, growing, and looking for ways to better serve her clients. She loves teaching yoga and being a massage therapist/ integrated health care practitioner. She hopes to see you in one of her classes!
In Gratitude, Blessed Be, Namaste,
After a challenging life event I am so grateful for Pam Fichtner and her yoga classes. Her class at the Queen Street Collective is so wonderful. With its stained glass windows, heated floor and labyrinth inlay its truly is a special experience. – Carol
